About Dan Ilett – speaker biography

Dan Ilett is CEO and founder at Greenbang, which delivers intelligence for a smarter future.

Greenbang’s mission is to enable cities, businesses and investors to buy the right technologies to manage supply and demand of resources effectively. And to enable smart technology companies to improve their offerings.

Founded in 2007, Greenbang’s products include reports, events and advisory services. Its research panels are made up of some of the world’s foremost thinkers in energy, technology and sustainability in Europe, the US and Asia.

Greenbang’s analysis is delivered on various platforms – the website, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google News – and in person. The website initially made money on advertising alone, but now engages customers in research, consulting and events. Our advisory services are based on best practices of social media and conversations around intelligent messaging. Across these services, our best-known clients are Siemens, Cisco, Kyocera, Google and IBM. We help marketing and media companies and have now developed offerings for SMEs.

Greenbang’s network includes global blue-chip companies, hedge funds, investors and media firms. The United Nations and a wide range of FTSE and Fortune 500 firms read Greenbang’s reports. In 2010, Greenbang’s award-winning Insight section, which has 5000 articles on sustainable business and innovation, was read by more than one-million people in a month.

Greenbang publishes research in: smart grid, sustainable cities, transport, waste and future resource management.

Dan is a frequent speaker at conferences and Cleantech Investment events. He recently spoke on Sustainable Cities at the UKTI Technology World Conference, and regularly hosts The Carbon Conversation.

He is passionate to see the European startup industry flourish. In 2008, he published the first annual Cleantech Startup Index, which today continues to showcase some of the most innovative and smart technologies and businesses in Europe. The annual index is the definitive guide for institutional and angel investors which serves as a framework for Greenbang to get these high growth start-ups commercial traction and access to investors

Dan is the chairman of the Low Carbon Technologies Forum, which is run in conjunction with the University of Bath and its Innovation Centre. As publisher to the Mobile Industry Review, Dan also keeps a close eye on mobile technology.

Dan is a serial entrepreneur with a successful media business and a new tech startup. In his eight years as a journalist, Dan wrote for the Financial Times, the Economist Group, the Daily Telegraph and a range of business trade magazines – CNET, silicon.com, zdnet, SC Magazine. Dan began his career as a Cisco-qualified network engineer.

He has a degree in Japanese language from the University of Sheffield, UK.

He plays a 12-string guitar.
